Top places to visit in Colchester, before you finish your degree!

Hey guys! I hope you’re having a great week! I’m feeling great, here at Essex our Easter holidays have just begun & that means a whole entire month off. Now it doesn’t mean that we can totally chill, no, it’s crunch time for us; it’s coming to the end of the academic year, so lectures are pretty much over and now it’s all final deadlines and essay prep (and i’m sure it’s the same for you guys too!).

BUT, enough of that, to lighten the mood, this week’s post is the top places to visit whilst you’re in Colchester (that is, if you’re going to be at the Colchester campus…obvs.) Colchester itself is a historic site, branded as Englands oldest town, so prepare yourself for some rich history and a few other spots thrown in there!

1. Colchester Zoo

Now, probably the most obvious and well-known spot in Colchester is the zoo! If you’re into having a nose at some tropical animals, fish or just wanting to have a day out, reliving your childhood, the zoo is the place. Located around 15 mins (by car) away from the main campus it’s easy to get to, not to mention cheap, with discounts for groups!

2. Colchester Castle

The castle is arguably Colchester’s most well-known landmark, with the Castle being built on original Roman foundations. The Castle itself has now been converted into a museum, with an array of artefacts and interactive displays, along with being surrounded by the beautiful grounds of Castle Park. If you want to get clued up on some English and Roman history – drop by!

3. More Museums

I did say that Colchester has a rich heritage and the town exemplifies it through its many museums throughout the town. If you’re interested in the Colchester castle, I’d say to also try your hand at these:

4. Colchester Town

But, not all of us are into museums, so for those of you that couldn’t care less about castles and history, Colchester town has some of those everyday gems that may tickle your fancy. The town features it’s own Cinema, shopping centre for your food and shopping needs, and an array of nightclubs such as Atik and Silk Road.

My point is, whatever suits you, you’ll almost always be able to find what you’re looking for near our Colchester campus. However, if you really are struggling to find something to do outside campus, student tickets down to London are pretty cheap lol! (say’s an unbiased Londoner) only kidding :)…not kidding… BUT COLCHESTER IS AWESOME! Check it out!

That’s all from me for now, I’m off to enjoy my month off of uni! However, if you have any questions, my email is still active and summer is coming up pretty quick, so now is a better time than ever to get your queries in!

See you in a month!

Love, Mon xxx
